En el año de 1979 el Instituto de Estadísticas y Censos (INEC), según dicha estadística por deficiencias nutricionales la cifra a llegado al 2.1%, lo que comparándola con años anteriores revela una curva progresista de incremento de mortalidad, lo se contrasta porque corresponde al período de mayor expansión económica que el Ecuador haya tenido en toda su vida republicana donde ha subido el ingreso bruto percápita, es la época en la que se ha respirado un clima de bonanza económica, la información estadística revela que el 70% corresponde a infantes y sobre todo del sexo femenino
